Veterans Day

The Treaty of Versailles … ending World War One … went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. November 11th became “Armistice Day” in the United States. In 1954 President Eisenhower signed a new proclamation, making November 11th “Veterans Day”.
So today we honor our military veterans and recognize their service and sacrifice over the years in our nation’s various causes, missions, and wars.
Today’s military is all-volunteer. While I recognize the advantages of retaining professional military personnel, I think we lose something by not spreading the burden among more Americans when our leaders decide it’s time to fight. It disturbs me that the children of those making such dramatic decisions seldom serve in the military. Politicians and the wealthy never have any “skin” in the “game”. I think that is wrong.
Thanks to all who have done and are doing their military service for our nation … for all Americans.
Our thought for today is from General George Catlett Marshall:
“Military power wins battles, but spiritual power wins wars.”
