Kansas officials are bracing for more gloomy news about the state's tax collections.
State Senate President Steve Morris says he expects revenues for the fiscal year ending Tuesday will fall about $130 million below estimates.
The Republican said that leaves Democrat Governor Mark Parkinson with the task of cutting the budget for the fiscal year that starts Wednesday. Morris said Parkinson must consider all areas of the budget, including education.
Parkinson plans to meet with reporters Thursday, outlining his plans for trimming planned spending in the $13 billion budget. The governor has the authority to cut spending as he sees fit to balance the budget.
