Judge Delays Roeder Hearing Another Month

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - The preliminary hearing for an abortion opponent accused in the death of Dr. George Tiller has been delayed for another month, giving lawyers more time to examine evidence. Sedgwick County District Judge Warren Wilbert on Friday set the preliminary hearing for Scott Roeder for July 28. At least one day has been scheduled for the hearing. If the judge finds probable cause to charge Roeder, an arraignment to enter a plea is expected to occur the same day. Roeder is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in Tiller's May 31 shooting death. The judge also gave prosecutors until July 10 to turn over evidence to defense attorneys.
