Reward Offered in Case of Assault on Wichita Woman
WICHITA, Kan. - A reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest after a woman was sexually assaulted and set on fire.
Late last Friday night, a woman, 36, was raped, beaten and set on fire at Fairmount Park, south of the Wichita State University campus. Nearby residents heard her scream, and a man pulled her from the fire before emergency crews arrived.
She was taken to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition with burns to about 55% of her body. Wichita Police Capt. Troy Livingston said officers spoke with her briefly after her arrival at the hospital, but have been unable to since due to the severity of her injuries.
Wichita Police said so far they have no leads and are asking for the public's help in solving the case. Now, Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County is offering $2,500 for a tip that leads to an arrest in the case.
"We have a monster or monsters among us," said Gordon Bassham, Executive Director of the Wichita Crime Commission.
