Troll Vandalism Suspects Charged in Wichita
WICHITA - After two years, there has finally been some movement in a notable case of vandalism in downtown Wichita.
The original case goes back to the summer of 2012, when somebody vandalized the semi-subterranean statue of the troll in the 700 block of W. Central, behind the Westar Energy river building; the vandals ripped off one of the troll's arms, and a medallion.
About two weeks ago, an anonymous citizen notified authorities about someone who had taken pictures with the stolen arm and posted them on Facebook and Twitter.
Police tracked down the suspects, and now felony charges have now been filed against a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man for vandalism and possession of stolen property.
Recently, the $5,000 statue was repaired and re-installed to its location underneath a grate on the east bank of the Arkansas River near the Keeper of the Plains statue. The Troll statue was designed by local artist Constance Ernatt, and originally installed seven years ago.
