Salina Couple Scammed by Two Men Promoting Business

SALINA, Kan. - The Salina Police Department is warning residents about scammers promoting their linoleum flooring business.

KAKE News spoke to Salina Police Sgt. James Feldman who said, "they then came into the house, spread out the linoleum and began talking to the couple for about 30 to 45 minutes about the linoleum."

However, the couple tells Salina Police that when they men left they later discovered about $200 missing from a drawer. Police refer to this scamming tactic as a "diversion burglary." Sgt. Feldman said, "these people are very good at building a rapport with them such as saying that they used to live in the neighborhood and he was with his grandson just to make you feel at home and that you can trust them."

While Salina Police Department hasn't had other callers reporting similar cases, police suggest if confronted ask questions about the business to see if it's legitimate. Sgt. Feldman said, "If they are a legitimate business they're going to have business cards. They are not just going to come out of the blue."

Most importantly police say if people stop by talk business outside. "If you don't know the subject, don't let them into your house."

Salina Police Department believes the two suspects got away in a white colored car. They ask if you have any information to please contact SPD at 785-826-7210.
