Power Restored in West Wichita



WICHITA, Kan.  -  UPDATE:  Power has been restored in west Wichita.  Around 4:00 p.m. Thursday, about 2,200 Westar customers in the area of Kellogg and West lost power because of an equipment failure in an underground section of line.

Although power is back, Friends University had already canceled evening classes.

Wichita Police had closed the ramps from Kellogg to West Street due because lights were out at the intersection, but those have since reopened.

WICHITA, Kan.  -  UPDATE: 
More than 1,000 Westar customers are without power in west Wichita.

The outage is impacting approximately 1,500 Westar customers in the area of Kellogg between West and Meridian. That number is down from about 2,200.

Westar said the outage is due to equipment failure in an underground section of line. The estimated time of restoration is 7:00 p.m.

Friends University has canceled evening classes due to the outage.

Wichita Police had closed the ramps from Kellogg to West Street due because lights were out at the intersection, but those have since reopened.

WICHITA, Kan.  -  Westar says more than 2,200 customers are without power in the area of Kellogg between West Street and Meridian.

Wichita Police say drivers should avoid the area of Kellogg and West Street. The power is out and all lights at the intersection are off. Both off ramps are also shut down, so you will not be able to exit on West Street.

Crews expect to have power restored by 7:00 p.m.  Westar does not yet know what caused the outage.
