No Budget Presented at Wichita School Board Meeting
WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita School Board was supposed to get the 2014-2015 budget at Monday night's meeting, but that didn't happen.
The original plan was for the school board to get the proposed budget from the district staff and then set a public hearing for August 11, the next meeting. The Board tentatively could then adopt the budget at that meeting.
Well, now it's back to the drawing board. District Chief Financial Officer Jim Freeman told KNSS News that the budget is not ready, so the item was pulled off the agenda. That means the public hearing will not be held August 11 and the budget discussion and adoption will have to take place later in August.
But not to worry. Freeman told us that, under state law, the district has until August 25 to pass the spending plan for the next school year.
