WICHITA - The city council did some economic development work at this week's meeting with a couple of small but growing businesses. The council approved property tax abatements for both.
C.E. Machine Company in southwest Wichita manufactures precision machine parts and assemblies for the aerospace industry, mostly out of state. There are 62 employees; the expansion will result in adding 20 more.
The other company receiving a property tax abatement was Walton's Inc., which is not in the aerospace business. It sells a variety of meat grinders, knives, kitchen equipment, grills, smokers, and much more.
Brett Walton of the company says they have customers in every state, mostly independent commercial meat processors: "Every day we're shipping to 25-30 states; over the course of a week we'll ship to 45 states or so. We've continued to grow over the last 10 years, we've averaged double-digit growth; we don't see that stopping in the future."
