(NEW YORK) -- A strong week for Wall Street continued on Wednesday as all three major indices finished the day higher than they began, as a pair of Senators unveiled a proposal for a gas tax increase.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the day up 98.13 to 16906.62.
The Nasdaq closed at 4362.84, up 25.61 from the day's open, while the S&P 500 gained 15, up to 1956.99.
Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., and Bob Corker, R-Tenn., unveiled a bipartisan plan on Wednesday that would raise the federal motor fuels tax to shore up the Highway Trust Fund. The move would increase the federal gasoline and diesel taxes by six cents in each of the next two years.
