WICHITA - McCurdy Auction sold their current office building to QuikTrip at Central and Oliver. Their next step is building a new 10,000 square foot building at the southeast corner of 13th & K-96 Highway. “We have utilized all the space at our current office building. Because of our growth and the popularity of real estate auctions it is time for us to expand. Our business is growing and we simply need more room to service our customers” said Braden R. McCurdy, who is the Managing Broker of the family owned business.
McCurdy recently purchased two lots totaling over an acre of land at 12041 E. 13th Street and construction will begin as soon as the final plans are approved by the City of Wichita.
QuikTrip has purchased the headquarters of McCurdy Auction LLC near Central and Oliver.
The Tulsa, Okla.-based convenience store chain recently purchased the building at 515 N. Oliver, which is next to an existing store at that intersection.
Mike Thornbrugh, a spokesman for QuikTrip, says the company purchased the 4,800-square-foot building with the intent to demolish it and eventually build a new “Gen-3” QuikTrip in its place.
Thornbrugh says it will be what QuikTrip calls a “scrape-and-build” process, in which a new store is built adjacent to an existing site. The existing site remains operational until the new one is built, then the old site is demolished.
McCurdy sold the building and is planning to build a new, 10,000-square-foot headquarters near 13th Street North and K-96, a project I first reported earlier on Thursday. The project will more than double the space McCurdy has now.
To accommodate McCurdy building a new office, QuikTrip won’t move forward with its plans to construct its new store at Central and Oliver until later this year.
That store will be 5,700 square feet and should open sometime in 2015, Thornbrugh says.
