(WASHINGTON) -- The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Thursday new sanctions on officials from the Syrian regime.
The Treasury Department sanctioned Moscow-based Tempbank and one of its senior executives, Mikhail Gagloev, along with six senior officials of the Syrian government. The officials include Brigadier General Bassam al-Hassan, who is an advisor to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and a representative to the government agency that runs Syria's non-conventional weapons program.
Also being sanctioned were Syria's ministers of public works, agriculture and agrarian reform, finance, social affairs, and labor.
The sanctions came the same week that the head of the Syrian opposition, Ahmed Jarba, visited Washington and met with Secretary of State John Kerry.
