ICE Makes 19 Arrests in Southwest Kansas

LIBERAL, Kan.  -  Nearly 20 people have been arrested in an ICE operation that took place last week in southwest Kansas.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal Operations (ERO) conducted a three-day operation last week in Liberal. According to a news release, the operation's primary goal was the removal of "criminal aliens and egregious immigration law violators."

The operation netted 19 arrests and of them, 18 were criminal aliens with prior convictions including drug trafficking, drug manufacturing, aggravated assault, burglary, domestic assault, DUI and illegal re-entry after deportation.

Agents arrested 17 men and 2 women: 11 were from Mexico, 7 were from Guatemala and 1 one was from Honduras.

"ERO strives to make our communities safer by arresting and removing convicted criminal aliens," said Ricardo Wong, field officer director for ERO Chicago. "By focusing our resources on the most egregious offenders, we immediately improve public safety in that area."
