Sedgwick County Elections Held Tuesday

HAYSVILLE, Kan.  -  Voters went to the polls Tuesday in Sedgwick County for various elections.  Haysville voters approved a new 1% sales tax increase. The taxes generated will pay for improvements to roads and parks, as well as other facilities in the city.

There was a small turnout for the election. Of the over 7,000 eligible voters in Haysville, just 862 turned out to vote. The measure passed 51% to 48% with 284 voting yes and 267 voting no.

Also in Colwich, voters elected Terrence Spexarth as mayor by 56%. An unnamed write-in candidate won the "at-large" city council seat.

And in Garden Plain, Joe Fisher won a seat on the city council with 31% of the vote.
