WICHITA - A 38-year-old man was apprehended in west Wichita, accused of shooting his wife and two of his children with a smaller-calibre handgun.
Police Lt. Randy Reynolds says at about 9:00 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the 300 block of N. Parkdale, where three people had been shot as part of a domestic violence incident. The search for the suspect focused on a nearby area along the Cowskin Creek, including the use of K-9 units. The suspect, who had apparently cut his wrists as part of a suicide attempt, was flushed out and captured near Central & Maize Road.
The man was booked into jail for three counts of attempted murder. He had already been arrested three times this year for misdemeanor domestic violence issues, including one case involving a gun.
His wife, a 36-year-old, was shot one time in the upper torso, a 13-year-old boy was shot in the head, and a five-year-old boy was shot near his left eye; they all survived. After the shooting, the wounded mother and the older boy each fled the house, running to different neighbors for help.
The wife had previously filed a 'protection-from-abuse' order against her husband; it expired last month.
