Wichita - Starting April first, 16 counties including the Flint Hills and Sedgwick County will ban open burning with one exception. The only burning allowed, will be agricultural burning. In Butler County, that means 40 acres or more. KAKE News spoke with Augusta Fire Chief Ray Marbut who said, "The farmers and ranchers do it to kill weeds and help cattle feeding. It's important for their livelihood."
The ban includes Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cowley, Elk, Geary, Greenwood, Johnson, Lyon, Marion, Morris, Pottawatomie, Riley, Sedgwick, Wabaunsee and Wyandotte counties. Each county may have different rules for the month of April. Make sure you check before you burn and you must have a burn permit.
