A project to resurface the facade of the skybridge over Market Street between the 125 N. Market office tower and Exchange Place buildings should be mostly done by next weekend, a spokeswoman for the owner of 125 N. Market says.
It’s one of many improvements Salt Lake City-based Security National Life Insurance Co. is making after acquiring the tower last summer, including to mechanical systems and office and lobby spaces.
The skybridge is structurally safe, but needs cosmetic improvements, says Janis Friesen.
“Esthetically, it should look much more attractive” when the project is done, she says.
Cracked windows will be replaced, but replacements may not be installed before the expected completion of the rest of the work March 15, she says. Ray Roofing has a $54,000 contract for the siding work and repair of the skybridge roof, she says.
Ray Roofing also will begin repairs on the roof of the office tower and former hotel that’s part of the tower around April 1, a $380,000 project expected to take about 45 days, Friesen says.
At some point, the interior of the skybridge could be more than walkway, she says.
“There’s all kinds of possibilities and we’re open to doing something really creative up there — it will be a really cool space for any number of possibilities,” Friesen says.
