ST. LOUIS, Mo. - #2-ranked Wichita State opened up the post-season with a victory, defeating Evansville 80-58 in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. The Shockers are now the fifth team in NCAA Division I men's basketball history to have a record of 32-0. The last team to start 32-0 was UNLV in 1991.
Cleanthony Early & Ron Baker each had 17 points for Wichita State. Chadrack Lufile grabbed seven rebounds, Kadeem Coleby had six blocked shots, and Fred VanVleet added five assists and four steals. WSU shot 51% from the field, and had 11 blocked shots.
WSU's next game will be in the MVC tournament semifinals facing Missouri State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Saturday. Mike Kennedy, Dave Dahl, and Bob Hull will begin the pre-game coverage at 12:30 p.m. on KNSS.
