Neighbor interrupts copper thieves on N. Arkansas in Wichita
WICHITA - An alert neighbor interrupted copper thieves early Thursday in north west Wichita.
Around 12:15 a.m. an A-T-&-T silent security alarm at an installation site in the 5200 block of north Arkansas was set off, alerting company personell that someone was tampering with their equipment. It was discovred later that about 160 feet of copper wire was missing.
Police Lt. Doug Nolte says officers canvassed the neighborhood for information and discovered a neighbor had seen "at least two subjects" cutting the wire. He then chased them off. Lt. Nolte says that was about the same time the alarm went off.
About 109 feet of copper was recovered nearby. AT&T estimated damage to be several thousand dollars. Utilities and phone service in the immediate area was interuppted for a time.
No arrest have been made. Poilce continue to investigate.
