Bank robbery suspect quickly identified and arrested

WICHITA - Police arrested a bank robbery suspect within a couple of hours following the theft Thursday.

The Bank of America at 2st St N. and Ridge Road was robbed around 3:40 p.m. when a man entered the bank and presented a note to one of he tellers. Early reports indicated the suspect did not display a weapon. He fled on foot after the teller put some cash into a cloth shopping bag he had with him.

Police Lt. Doug Nolte says "everything worked together very quickly and cleanly" as police were able get surveilance pictures out to the media by around 4:30 p.m.

Lt. Nolte says within another hour, around 5:20 p.m., the suspect was identified and accompanied back to the scene of the robbery where he, "surrendered to police" without incident. He was later booked into jail for bank robbery.

Police reports indicated the suspect was brought back to the bank after his picture was seen on TV by a relative.
