WICHITA, Kan. - Cafe 402 lives again at the downtown branch of the Greater Wichita YMCA.
Local restaurateur Jason Fisher has taken over operations of the grab-and-go style cafe in the main lobby of the downtown YMCA. Fisher re-opened the venue Sunday and is ramping up operations until he really gets going in January.
The cafe will employ about 10 people.
Fisher kept the Cafe 402 name that the venue had when the Hyatt Regency Wichita operated it. In October, the Hyatt ceased operations of the cafe to focus on the hotel’s internal operations.
Fisher says his Cafe 402 has expanded hours and a lower price point. He says most items on the menu are under $5. The cafe also features Prairie Fire coffees and teas, as opposed to Starbucks offerings previously.
Fisher says offering Prairie Fire supports a local company and helps to keep prices down.
Cafe 402 is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. The YMCA is open on Sundays, but the food-service venue will be closed.
The menu features breakfast bagels, salads, wraps and various sandwiches. Smoothies also will be a staple for Cafe 402.
Fisher says while Cafe 402 will cater to YMCA members, he hopes to attract people from nearby businesses as well. If Cafe 402 is successful, Fisher hopes to take the concept into other YMCA facilities.
