17 cars broken into in W. Wichita, 2 men arrested
WICHITA, Kan. - A rash of car break-ins was stopped in it's tracks on the city's west side early Thursday.
Around 3:40 a.m. a woman heard a noise outside her home, in the 300 block of South Firefly, near Maple and 119th St. West. She looked ou a window and saw someone closing the trunk of a car and then leave in a red car.
This prompted her to call 9-1-1.
Police Lt. Doug Nolte says when officers arrived they were able to close off the immediate area, as only two streets led back into the area, south of Maple. Police spotted a red car and pulled it over.
Lt. Nolte says inside the car officers found evidence of car break-ins and further investigation revealed around 17 vehicles in the neighborhood had been broken into. Nolte says windows were broken to gain entry to the locked vehicles.
Two men, ages 18 and 21, were arrested and booked into jail on charges of breaking and entering vehicles.
