WICHITA, Kan. - Police believe a shoplifting suspect who pulled nunchuks on an officer Wednesday afternoon may be involved in other recent crimes.
Around 4:30 p.m. police were dispatched to Von Maur in the Towne East Mall at Kellogg and Rock Road with the report of a shoplifter at the store. A short time later an officer spotted the suspect in a nearby parking lot and gave chase on foot.
Lt. Doug Nolte says at some point the suspect turned towards the officer and pulled out a pair of nunchuks and "displayed them at the officer." Nolte says the officer promptly tazed the suspect and took the 33 year old man into custody.
Lt. Nolte says police suspect the man is also connected to two recent break-ins at an east Wichita Target Store. On November 2 and December 2, a suspect used concrete to break the front glass at the same store on Towne East Drive. Digital cameras were stolen the first time, and cell phones were taken in the most recent case.
The suspect was booked on multiple charges, including aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and possesion of illegal weapons.
