UPDATE: Pedestrians hurt in north Wichita hit-and-run

WICHITA, Kan. -- Police are investigating after two men were hit by a car early Saturday morning in north Wichita.

Officers were called just before 12:30 a.m. to a possible shooting near East 12th Street North and Minneapolis. When they arrived on scene, they found two men, ages 38 and 39, who had been hit by an eastbound car and were lying in the street. The car had fled the scene.

Sgt. J.B Swanson said one victim was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, while the other was listed in critical condition and underwent surgery.

Investigators are still working to determine what happened.

"At this point in time, it appears to be an accident," Swanson said. "It's very early in the investigation to make any conclusions on that. We're still trying to determine exactly how this occurred."

The incident happened on a dark street, and both men were wearing dark clothing, police said. Based on debris found at the scene, police are looking for a dark-colored, four-door Saab with heavy front end damage and a broken windshield.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
