WICHITA, Kan. -- A woman visiting her daughter's grave finds it's been hit by copper thieves. A four hundred dollar vase was cut from the grave site at Maple Grove Cemetery on north hillside and it might not be the only one stolen. Kristie Trimble's daughter, Amanda Honesty Star was born October 4, 1995. May 4, 1999, at the age of three and a half, Amanda lost her battle with cancer. But Amanda's final resting place is missing a large flower vase.
Kristie Trimble spoke with KAKE News, "It's just awful, awful that somebody would do something like that.” Trimble says the vase is brown with copper stripes and it's attached by a chain that someone had to cut through to in order to steal the vase. So far police say Trimble's is the only report they've gotten but we noticed that Amanda's grave isn't the only one with an empty spot where a vase should be.
KAKE News spoke with Wichita Police Lt. Doug Nolte who said, "We're certainly interested in knowing if anyone else has experienced this kind of theft. So when parents and family are out there checking those graves they need to let us know by calling 911.”
