WICHITA - A man from Arkansas, who was only in Wichita for a few days, was shot and killed in north Wichita. Police Lt. Todd Ojile says the trouble began early Wednesday afternoon, when four male suspects entered a residence near 14th & Holyoke; he says police believe the suspects tried to rob a man an woman inside the residence. There was an exchange of gunfire, and the 27-year-old victim was shot one time; he died in the living room.
Before he died, 27-year-old Paul Khmabounheuang returned gunfire, and was able to wound two of the four suspects. One of the suspects, a 20-year-old man, was found with a gunshot wound to the leg near 13th & Holyoke. Another suspect, a 19-year-old man, drove away; he was found at some apartments east of Oliver & Harry with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Both men were hospitalized; the younger man underwent surgery, and was listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Both of the injured suspects are gang-members, and they were placed under police guard at the hospital.
Police are still looking for the other two suspects, one of whom ran away to the west, and another who fled to the east; drugs were found in the residence. This is Wichita's 15th homicide of the year; another homicide also occurred at this same location six years ago.
