WICHITA - A Southeast High School student was severely injured after being hit by an SUV.
It happened around 11:40 a.m. Thursday near the high school at Edgemoor & Bayley, south of Lincoln.
Police said a 15-year-old boy was crossing the street, but not using a crosswalk, when he was hit by a south-bound SUV. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
A USD 259 spokesperson said the teen is a freshman.
KAKE News reports a witness who was in a vehicle behind the SUV said she saw two boys come out of the school. She said one of them stopped at the curb while the other continued into the street and was hit.
Police said they've had problems in the past with Southeast students not using the crosswalk.
