Two Arrests After Deadly Hit-and-Run in N. Wichita
WICHITA - Police have made two arrests in a deadly hit-and-run case dating from four months ago in north Wichita.
Officers re-arrested 26-year-old George Childers; it's believed he was in the car that killed 49-year-old Lloyd "Sonny" Ferguson and seriously injured a six-year-old boy at 21st & Piatt on a rainy night on July 5th; the victims were riding a horse at the time. Two other people stopped to help, then all four victims were hit by another car.
Following up on a Crime Stoppers tip in August, officers found the car they believe was involved in the crash, hidden in a garage in the 2900 block of N. Coolidge.
Childers was originally taken into custody on charges unrelated to the fatal hit-and-run. He and two other people were then released as officers continued to investigate the case.
On Monday afternoon, Childers was rearrested on a pair of counts of failure to stop at an accident where there was great bodily harm; officers also arrested a 31-year-old woman for felony obstruction.
Police are still looking for a 19-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman in connection to the case.
