WICHITA - A man was shot and killed in southeast Wichita, and he was involved in a traffic accident. Police Lt. Todd Ojile says it all began before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, with citizens reports gunshots east of Oliver & Harry. About a minute later, police received the call of an injury traffic accident west of the intersection. They found the green Ford Escort upside down -- it apparently had hit a tree and rolled over; inside was a 47-year-old man, and lots of blood.
On the way to the hospital, medical personnel discovered the victim had a gunshot wound to the torso; he was declared dead within a half hour. Police found a bullet hole in the side of the car.
Police continue to interview witnesses, trying to identify a suspect; this is Wichita's 13th homicide of the year.
