WICHITA, Kan. - The Boeing Co. on Friday announced that it will scale back production of its 747-8 through 2015 because of lower demand for large passenger and freighter aircraft. Boeing said in a news release that it will cut the rate from 1.75 airplanes a month to 1.5 during that time. First delivery at the new production rate is expected in early 2014. Spirit AeroSystems Inc. in Wichita builds the the forward cab and other components of the 747. Spirit spokesperson Ken Evans says the change by Boeing is not expected to affect employment at Spirit.
