WICHITA - A Kansas man was hurt so badly in a car crash earlier this year that he's in a rehabilitation hospital. Now his father has organized an event to help pay the bills.
Trapper Tyrell, 33, almost died in June. His spinal cord was badly bruised. Father Vance Tyrell says the company where he works never paid premiums for worker's compensation insurance. So the family is seeking the public's help.
Tyrell's father has posted several videos and pictures on Facebook from his treatment at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Nebraska. The medical bills reportedly are over one million dollars. An online fundraising drive has raised only about $4,000.
But this Friday and Saturday, a series of events is planned to raise even more. They include a homerun Derby, golf chipping contest, softball games, and a silent auction at Prairie Hills Middle School in Hutchinson. The auction prizes include a weekend at a ski lodge in New Mexico.
Tyrell's father calls his effort TWWA: Trapper Will Walk Again.
