GARDEN CITY, Kan. - A Garden City High School teacher is on paid leave after being arrested for DUI. Last Wednesday evening, Finney County sheriff's deputies were called to check the report of a car swerving ditch to ditch on Kansas Highway 156 in a rural part of the county.
When deputies arrived, they found the car facing eastbound, up against a guardrail in the westbound lane. They conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, who failed the test.
Deputies arrested Heather Dawn Kneeland, 41, of Garden City, and took her to the law enforcement center, where she refused to take a breathalyzer test. She was then booked into the Finney County Jail.
Kneeland teaches English as a second language at Garden City High School. Roy Cessna, public information coordinator for USD 457, said she is on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
