Cessna Reveals New Military Aircraft
WICHITA, Kan. - Cessna revealed a new aircraft on Monday that the company has been working on in secret. Our news partners at KAKE-TV report that engineers have been sequestered for the last eighteen months, working on the project in east Wichita.
Cessna CEO Scott Ernest says the Scorpion is a composite aircraft, built with the goal of governments using it for either military or non-military applications.
"This is really an opportunity for us to diversify our product line," said Ernest. "We basically paid for this on our own nickel, through Textron, and it's our way of trying to put a very affordable product out there for the military to use," he added.
Ernest made his remarks at the downtown Rotary luncheon. Its first flight is expected by the end of the year.
