WICHITA, Kan. - Koch Industries Inc. will not be buying eight newspapers belonging to The Tribune Co., among them the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune. The Wichita Business Journal reported on an article published by The Daily Caller on Thursday.
The news was confirmed by an email statement from Koch that reads in part: “Koch continues to have an interest in the media business, and we’re exploring a broad range of opportunities where we think we can add value.” It also stated that “In terms of the Tribune, the Daily Caller story is accurate.”
The Daily Caller sites unnamed sources as saying that Koch determined purchasing the papers to not be economically viable and that both parties have walked away from negotiations.
Wichita-based Koch had been rumored to be interested in the newspapers since March.
