Hail, Strong Winds Cause Extensive Damage In Reno, Kingman Counties
HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Officials in Reno County received multiple reports of damage caused by Tuesday night's severe weather. Hutchinson police say they recorded softball-size hail in the area of Kansas Highway 61 and East 43rd Avenue. Trees and power lines are down and blocking the road in the 3400 block of North Plum. Power lines are also down at 17th and Lorraine. Residents are asked to avoid the areas.
Reports of damage to buildings have been reported across the area. The National Weather Service reports the Conklin Cars dealership on K-61 and 11th Avenue has sustained damage to a large section of its roof. They say large hail has knocked out windows at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. A large flag pole has fallen onto vehicles at Midway Motors in the 2100 block of East 30th Avenue.
Emergency management officials say the skylights at the Wal-Mart in the 1900 East 17th Avenue in Hutchinson were knocked out by the wind and hail. In Pretty Prairie, emergency management officials say trees have blown down onto homes and garages.
No injuries have been reported at this time. Officials ask residents to stay home if possible.
