WICHITA, Kan. - Security officers at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport recovered a firearm from a passenger’s carry-on bag Thursday afternoon.
In a news release, officials said that the .25 caliber Targa GT and magazine were not loaded when found at a security checkpoint. Security then notified airport safety police, and additional information was not released.
Thursday’s incident is the second for Wichita in 2013. But nationwide, TSA has found more than 900 firearms at checkpoints this year.
TSA has the authority to impose a civil penalty on passengers who bring a firearm to the checkpoint.
