WICHITA, Kan. - Sedgwick County sheriff's deputies have recovered one of three guns that were taken during a break-in at a county facility late last month.
On Saturday, June 29, three men entered the Sedgwick County Fleet Maintenance parking compound in the 1000 block of West Stillwell, where county vehicles are serviced. Once inside, they broke into three sheriff vehicles.
The suspects took two Remington 870 shotguns, along with a Bushmaster M4 rifle. They also took various other equipment used by sheriff's deputies.
Last Saturday, investigators recovered one of the shotguns, and arrested three men for burglary. Two of the suspects also face a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon. Deputies recovered some of the other property that was taken, including a sheriff coat, ammunition, flashlights and handcuffs. The two other guns are still missing.
The facility from where the items were taken has security measures, but a storm that hit a few days before the break-in affected some of those measures. Officials are reviewing procedures regarding items left in vehicles awaiting service.
