Police Investigating Editorial Published by Local Activist
WICHITA, Kan. - An editorial published by a local activist about the Wichita City Council has police investigating as a possible criminal threat. But the publisher says the article was tongue-in-cheek and calls it a joke.
Members of the city council say it’s OK to call them “crazy” or “insane.” That’s freedom of speech. But it’s not all right to threaten to shoot them.
The editorial came out in The Wichita Post, a paper published by local activist Craig Gabel. The article is complaining about possible fines the council was considering for overuse of water. In it, Gabel says if fines would be put in place, the city would need to implement an emergency plan that includes barricades and riot police at City Hall. It says not to keep people out but to keep the crazy and insane in. It goes on to say maybe even a shoot-on-sight order would be advisable
Council members have turned the article over to police who are now investigating it as a possible criminal threat.
