HUTCHINSON - The Hutchinson City Council agreed Tuesday morning to proclaim June 21 as “Smallville Day” in honor of the comic book character Clark Kent and his alter ego Superman being inducted into the Kansas Hall of Fame.
Mayor Bob Bush said he is going to “try to find my inner child” as he presents the proclamation during the June 18 meeting.
It’s an effort that was started by three Hutchinson natives nearly a year ago, when Christopher Wietrick, Ben Eisiminger and Casey McNeely started gathering similarities between Clark Kent’s hometown and Hutchinson.
They started the Facebook page “Hutchinson, KS should be named ‘Smallville,’” which has gained more than 2,500 followers.
As the comic book celebrates its 75th anniversary, the movie “Man of Steel” is released and Clark Kent is inducted into the Kansas Hall of Fame, Wietrick thought it was the perfect time to ask the city to claim Smallville.
