Man Fleeing Traffic Stop Arrested For Child Endangerment



     WICHITA, Kan. - A man is facing several felony charges including child endangerment following a brief chase in West Wichita.

     It began shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday when an officer spotted a car northbound on West Street near 2nd Street with its headlights off.

     The officer stopped the car at St. Louis but the driver speed off eastbound. The suspect blew through the stop sign at Sheridan and t-boned another car. Both vehicles ended up in the yard of a home.

     The suspect tried to escape on foot but was caught a few houses down from the accident. He was transported to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for minor injuries and then booked into jail.

     Sgt. Jim Merrick told KAKE News Saturday night that inside of the car, a 2-year-old child was unrestrained and an infant was in a car seat that was not properly restrained. The children and their 19-year-old mother were not hurt. A 12-year-old child in the car was also uninjured.

     The suspect is facing a total of 14 charges, including three felony counts of aggravated child endangerment, assault on a law enforcement officer and flee and elude. The mother of the children was also cited for not restraining her children.
     Sgt. Scott Brunow said the suspect and the woman had met on Facebook and he had borrowed a friend's car to take her and her children to the movies. The man had a revoked Kansas driver's license.
