Fight & Gunfire Outside Wichita Nightclub
WICHITA - Gunfire outside Club Rodeo, east of Kellogg & Webb.
At about 1:45 a.m. Friday, attendees of a sold-out rap concert were exiting the bar when some people in the crowd began attacking two of the club's bouncers, hitting them with chairs and stools. Police out in the parking lot were called in to help the victims. Officers twice tried to use loud-speakers to get the crowd to disperse, but they were ignored. Officers then set off a smoke canister, which was effective in getting the crowd to get away from the club's entrance.
As people were moving away from the smoke, gunshots were heard in the parking lot. An arriving Sedgwick County sheriff's deputy stopped a car and arrested two men in their 20s for weapons violations, and discharging a firearm within the city limits; two guns were located in the vehicle. Police also took several others into custody, including one person who was a fugitive on a federal arrest warrant.
