WICHITA - A body has been pulled from a south Wichita pond, and police believe it could be a man who went missing after running from officers earlier this month.
Around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, someone saw what they thought was a body in the water near the 100 block of W. Macarthur. That person flagged down a police officer, and additional assistance was requested.
A body was pulled from the water a short time later.
This is the same pond that a man jumped into while trying to flee from police in the early morning hours on March 8th after a car chase. Officers had been trying to stop the car for traffic violations. Eventually the car crashed through a chain link fence, and the driver got out near 35th Street South & Gold. He jumped into the pond and swam away.
Two others who were in the car were taken into custody. They told police the other man ran because he's on probation.
An eight-hour search ensued with boats and dive teams, but rescue teams found no sign of the 27-year-old man; the search was suspended that afternoon.
Police believe this is the same man, but are waiting on positive identification.
