After the Storm, Wichita in Snow-Removal Mode
Ted Woodward Reporting
WICHITA - Wichita has a new mountain -- it's a mountain of snow removed from downtown and the Delano neighborhood.
City crews have transported more than 500 truck-loads of snow from downtown streets, dumping it all into a big pile on the southwest corner of 2nd & McLean; they're about halfway done with that process.
City road crews will continue to work 24-hour shifts, clearing primary roads, then secondary routes, then residential streets accessing hospitals & schools; they hope to have those roads in reasonably good shape by school-time Monday morning.
At more than 14 inches, this was the second-biggest snowstorm in Wichita history. The highest snowfall in the state, 18 inches, was recorded 55 miles west of Wichita, in Zenda.
