WICHITA - This week city workers begin reconstructing a bridge on South Broadway at 34th Street ... over railroad tracks. City Engineer Gary Janzen tells K-N-S-S News the bridge was built in 1938.
During construction, the south portion of the existing bridge will still be able to handle Broadway's traffic. He says it's better for businesses to do the construction now and keep Broadway open, rather than close it, as was done with some other nearby construction work in 2007.
Janzen projects construction to be completed by the Spring of 2014.
Another project involves city workers reconstructing West Central Street ... between 119th and 135th. Janzen tells K-N-S-S News the roadway needs to be re-aligned; there's a dog-leg curve in the road, and there have been multiple traffic accidents there in the past.
Several houses were demolished to clear the way ... and the project includes two new bridges.
Janzen expects both projects to be completed by Spring of 2014.
