Oil Company Explosion Kills Dozens in Mexico City

YURI CORTEZ/AFP/Getty Images(MEXICO CITY) -- Officials say 14 people are dead and more than 100 were injured Thursday after an explosion an at oil company in Mexico City.

The deadly blast ripped apart the main headquarters of Mexico's state-owned oil company, Petroleos Mexicano, also known as Pemex. It damaged three floors of a building and sent hundreds of workers into Mexico City's streets as a large plume of smoke rose above. Rescue workers raced to free victims who were trapped.

The explosion, which happened in the basement of an administrative building, may have been linked to an electrical problem.
