Gang Member Back Behind Bars

WICHITA, Kan.  -  A local gang member, suspected of several robberies over the past few weeks, is back behind bars.  However, his victims say it could have been prevented if he was in jail.  Instead, he slipped out of an unguarded hospital room after being shot over a month ago.
Police had been looking for Devontez Morrison, 22, a documented gang member, for more than a month. He slipped out of a Wichita hospital after being shot in a gang-related shooting.
Police made the decision not to place a guard at Morrison's hospital room. Since he left the hospital, Morrison is suspected of robbing one business and two homes at gunpoint.
"Every case has to be evaluated whether we can afford it, whether the crime is serious enough that we need to put someone on them," said Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte.  "We have to make choices," Nolte said. "Unfortunately there were more victims but fortunately no one was hurt."
Morrison has since been arrested and is currently being held on $750,000 bond.
