WICHITA, Kan. - Parents of students at Wichita's Heights High School were apprised of an incident at the school on Friday. A student was found with a weapon and now faces disciplinary and possible criminal charges. The administration stressed that the situation was dealt with, and no students or staff were ever threatened. It was learned that the student had a gun while in the administration office. U.S.D. 259 Spokeswoman Susan Arnsman says it began while the staff were investigating a student for a separate incident. "They found out that student had a weapon, and because there's an S.R.O. at the school, they immediately got the S.R.O. involved," said Arnsman. The student was taken into custody by the Wichita police.
Arnsman says it was an isolated incident that happened in an office and away from the student body. She says the student will face disciplinary action from the school. Arnsman says that U.S.D. 259 has a zero tolerance policy regarding weapons, and the school dealt with the matter quickly and safely.
