WICHITA - In response to recent gun violence, some have suggested putting armed guards in every school. Police officers are stationed at Wichita's public high schools and middle schools as part of the School Resource Officer program. City Manager Robert Layton tells KNSS News the City and USD 259 pay for those officers. He says SROs were never intended to patrol the halls as armed guards. Layton says he doubts Wichita's police chief or the city council would support putting officers at every school in the city.
