INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - A suspected robber and a store owner are hospitalized after they shot each other earlier this morning in southeast Kansas. It happened late Wednesday morning at Uncle Ken's Coin Shop, located in the 1800 block of North Penn Avenue in Independence.
Police said a man came into the store with a handgun and demanded cash. As the suspect was taking the money, the store's owner pulled out a gun and some type of struggle ensued. Both men fired, and both were shot.
Police located the suspect about a block away. He was taken to an Independence hospital, then flown to a Wichita hospital. His current condition is unknown. The store's owner was shot in the arm. He's going into surgery for a broken bone. The stolen cash was recovered.
It's about time law abiding citizens start fighting back. The police can not protect you!!! The one comforting thought is, they are just a few minutes away.... while you lay there bleeding!! Or worse!! But this time the BAD GUY got his and maybe the next BAD GUY will think twice about using a firearm. He'll just use a knife or a hand grenade made in another country... because he's a BAD GUY. O, by the way, did you know the BAD GUY's hand gun probably crossed our secure boarder between America and Mexico! Let's just outlaw the BAD GUY's! The trigger won't get pulled if the BAD GUY is in jail (for a long, long, long time), or something more serious.
Where has common sense gone?
