Man Dies in Crash near Augusta

AUGUSTA, Kan.  -  The Kansas Highway Patrol says a young man was killed after an accident Friday near Augusta.  It happened shortly before noon on Highway 77 near SW 120th. State troopers say the man was driving a car south on 77 when for an unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the center line.  The man was identified as Kenneth Shaw, 21, of Douglass.
The car crashed into a northbound semi-truck, head-on.  Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, William Wasmer, 51, of Wichita, was taken by EMS to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in potentially serious condition.
It's unclear what may have caused the car to cross into northbound traffic, but state troopers are still investigating.  No one else was involved in the crash.  The highway patrol says Shaw was not wearing his seat belt.
